What motivated you to install solar?
Our long-term vision for @310 is to reduce and eventually eliminate our dependence on fossil fuels to create a vibrant community and a build long-term sustainable future for Keene and the Monadnock region. This is a big lift because the building is 85,000 square feet and there are many steps that need to be taken in order to achieve this. Installing solar panels was a good first step and a solid investment that will help us move the needle towards net-zero.
How many panels do you have, and if you know, how much energy are you producing, percentage of your electric usage?
We have 298 panels which is a 143kW array.
What has been the biggest benefit so far? What are you excited about?
There are a lot of benefits! It is so exciting to watch how much clean energy is being created daily. The Renewable Energy Credit program (REC) makes installing a solar system economically viable which is often the biggest hurdle for people to install a PV system.
What were the obstacles to installing solar and what did you do to overcome them?
The biggest obstacle was finding the upfront money to do the project. We were very active in applying for grants and ultimately were able to get funding through the CDFA (Community Development Finance Authority).
What advice do you have for people considering installing solar?
Do not get discouraged by the upfront cost of solar! The economics of solar have gotten a lot better in recent years. It is a great economic investment as well as an investment for a clean future.
